⏱ Reading time: 8 minutes | 🚀 First automation live: 5 minutes

Publishing on Instagram is only half the work. The other half happens in the comments section: that’s where the algorithm measures whether your content generates real conversation, and where your followers expect to feel that someone on the other side is paying attention to them.

The problem is that replying to every comment manually becomes impossible as soon as a post starts to take off. Ten comments are manageable. A hundred — not anymore. And if you have several active posts at the same time, the notifications inbox turns into chaos that you eventually end up ignoring.

With Automation by AppSorteos, you can set up a flow that automatically replies to every comment on any of your posts or reels. No filters, no exceptions: anyone who comments receives an instant reply. In this guide, I’ll show you how to activate it in five minutes.

What does this flow do exactly?

This flow automates public replies to comments on your Instagram posts. When someone comments on any of your posts or reels, AppSorteos automatically publishes a reply visible in the comment thread — without you having to intervene.

It’s important to understand the difference from the automatic DM flow: that flow replies to the comment by sending a private direct message to the person. This flow, on the other hand, replies publicly in the comment thread itself, just as if you had replied to the comment yourself.

If you want to combine both actions — replying in the comments and sending a DM at the same time — you can chain the two flows or add more actions within the same one. You can see how to do this in our guide on how to send an automatic DM when someone comments on your Post or Reel.

📊 Why does replying to comments matter? Instagram’s algorithm considers the speed and volume of comment replies as high-quality engagement signals. Posts with quick replies — even automatic ones — tend to stay in feeds longer and receive more organic distribution. A well-written automatic reply can be the difference between a post that disappears within hours and one that keeps reaching new people days later.

When do you need to reply to ALL comments without exception?

This filter-free flow is the most suitable when the goal isn’t to capture a specific lead, but to keep the conversation active and demonstrate presence across all your posts. Here are the most common use cases:

Content creators with high comment volume

When you publish valuable content — tutorials, opinions, entertainment — and receive dozens or hundreds of comments per post, it’s impossible to reply to all of them manually. The flow ensures no one goes without a reply and that engagement keeps growing even when you’re not watching your phone.

🏆 Real example: A travel content creator posts a Reel about budget destinations in Europe. In the first 6 hours, it receives more than 400 comments. With the flow active, every person who comments gets an instant reply. The Reel ends up with more than 800 interactions in the comments section, boosting its distribution over the following days.

E-commerce during campaigns or launches

During a launch, a seasonal offer, or a giveaway, comment volume spikes in a very short time. Leaving comments unanswered at that critical moment gives the impression of a careless brand and can slow down conversion.

With automatic replies active, you can focus your energy on the inquiries that do require personalized attention — those that come in via DM or that ask very specific questions — while the flow handles the public engagement layer at scale.

Product or service launches

In the week of a new product or service launch, every positive comment that receives a quick reply reinforces social proof. The flow can be configured to reply with a message that includes the direct link to the product or registration page, turning every comment into a commercial touchpoint.

If your account regularly goes viral — memes, audio trends, humor videos — comment volume can multiply unpredictably. The filter-free flow is most suitable in these cases: it covers any post without you having to activate it post by post.

Communities and thematic pages

Community accounts — collectors, sports fans, fans of a TV show — where engagement is the whole point of the account. Replying to every comment reinforces the sense of belonging and encourages followers to keep participating.

Agencies and community managers with multiple clients

If you manage several Instagram accounts, setting up the flow once and leaving it active across all posts saves hours of work per week. The flow can run in the background on all your clients’ accounts without you having to monitor each one.

💡 When NOT to use the filter-free flow? If your account receives many comments in different languages or from spam profiles, it’s better to configure the flow to reply only on specific posts or only when the comment contains certain words. You can see how to do this in the guide on how to send an automatic DM when someone comments on your Post or Reel, where we explain the use of post and keyword filters.

Before you start: what you need

To follow this guide you need:

  • An active account on AppSorteos. If you don’t have one yet, you can create it for free at AppSorteos.
  • Your Instagram Business or Creator account connected to AppSorteos. If you haven’t done it yet, first follow the introduction guide to DM Automation to connect your account in less than 5 minutes.
  • At least one active post on your Instagram account. The flow can be activated on any existing post or reel.

Step by step: how to configure the flow

Step 1: Access Automation from your dashboard

Log in to your AppSorteos account and in the main menu look for Automation. You can also access the Automation section from here.

Once inside, click on “New flow”. The template selection modal will open.

Step 2: Choose your entry point

The template modal offers you two paths to reach the same result. Choose the one that works best for you:

From a template:

In the “Templates” section of the modal, select the “Reply to all your comments” card. This option opens the editor with a pre-loaded sample message, saving you a few seconds and giving you a starting point to edit from.

From the trigger:

In the “Start with a trigger” section, select “Comment on Post / Reel”. This option opens the editor blank and you configure everything from scratch. Ideal if you already know exactly how you want to structure the flow.

You can reach the same flow via two paths: by directly choosing the “Reply to all your comments” template, or by selecting the “Comment on Post / Reel” trigger to start from scratch.

💡Which option should you choose? Both paths lead to the same editor with exactly the same features. The only difference is that the template comes with a pre-loaded sample message. If it’s your first time configuring this type of flow, the template is the quickest option. If you already have experience and prefer to start from scratch, the trigger gives you more control from the first step.

Step 3: Configure the trigger

The editor opens with the trigger configuration panel on the left side. This step defines when the flow will activate.

Configure the following options:

A) When someone comments on…

You’ll see two options: “A specific post or reel” or “Any post or reel”. For this flow, select “Any post or reel”. This way, the flow activates on all your current and future content without you having to configure it post by post.

B) And the comment contains…

Here you’ll see two options: “Any word (no filter)” or “One or more specific words”. Select “Any word (no filter)”. The system will show an orange warning confirming that the flow will run with any comment, without filtering by keywords. That’s exactly what we’re looking for with this type of automation.

Comment on Post/Reel trigger configuration panel in AppSorteos with the options any post or reel and any word no filter selected, and the orange no-filter warning visible
With these two options selected, the flow will reply to any comment on any of your posts. The orange warning confirms that the flow will run without any keyword filters.

⚠ About the orange warning: The message “Will run with any comment, without filtering by keywords” is informational — not an error. AppSorteos is alerting you so you’re aware of the scope of the flow before activating it. If your account receives many comments, this configuration can generate a high volume of automatic replies, which is exactly the goal of this flow. If at any point you want to limit it to specific posts or words, you can edit it at any time without losing your message configuration.

Step 4: Configure the reply-to-comment action

Once the trigger is configured, the editor shows the visual flow in the center of the screen: a TRIGGER block connected to an ACTION block. Click on the “Reply to Comment” action block to configure it.

The editor shows the complete flow visually. The trigger block fires the reply-to-comment action. On the right you can see a preview of how the flow looks from a mobile device.

Inside the action you’ll see the field to write the reply message. If you arrived via the template, there will be a pre-loaded sample message. If you started from the trigger, the field will be empty.

AppSorteos lets you configure multiple reply variants: the system picks one randomly each time the flow activates. This is very important for this filter-free flow, because replying with the exact same text to hundreds of people on the same post can look unnatural. With two or three different variants, the automatic replies appear more organic.

How to write replies that work:

A good automatic comment reply meets three conditions.

  1. It’s brief: Instagram comments are short by nature, and a long reply looks out of place. Two or three lines maximum.
  2. It invites further interaction: a question or a call to action within the message can generate additional replies that keep feeding engagement.
  3. It sounds like you: the tone should be consistent with your account’s voice. If your profile is informal and friendly, the automatic reply should be too.

Some examples of replies that work well for this type of flow:

For a general content account:

“Thanks for commenting! Which part did you find most useful? 😊

“So glad you made it here! If you have any questions, write to me 👇

For an e-commerce account:

“Thanks! If you want more info about this product, send us a DM 💬

“Hey! Any questions? We’re here to help 😊

For a launch or event account:

“Thanks for your enthusiasm! Spots are running out. Check the link in bio 🔗

“So glad you’re interested! Send us a DM for more details 📩

📊 Key fact about reply randomization: When you set up between two and four reply variants, Instagram detects less text repetition and the flow is less likely to be flagged as spam. For filter-free flows — where the same text can be sent hundreds of times on the same post — having at least two variants is a highly recommended practice.

Step 5 (optional): Add more actions to the flow

Replying to the comment is the main action, but you can add more steps to the flow. To add a new action, click on the “+ Add action” button that appears below the current action block in the visual editor.

Some useful combinations for this flow:

  • Reply to the comment publicly + send a DM with more information or a product link. This covers both the public thread and the private channel.
  • Reply to the comment + ask for email via DM. Useful for posts where you offer a downloadable resource or a special offer in exchange for contact information. You can see how it works in the guide on email capture from Instagram.
  • Reply to the comment + ask for a follow via DM. For growing accounts that want to convert every person who comments into a follower. Learn more in our guide on how to gain followers with Instagram automations.

From the editor you can add more actions to the flow by clicking the “+ Add action” button. This lets you combine the comment reply with sending a DM, email capture, or other available actions.

Step 6: Save and activate the flow

Once the trigger, reply message, and any additional actions are configured, click the “Save” button in the upper right corner of the editor. The flow will be saved in “Draft” status until you activate it.

Before activating it, use the “Preview” to review how the reply will look on a mobile device. Once you’re happy, activate the flow and it will start working immediately.

From that moment on, every time someone comments on any of your posts, the flow will activate and automatically publish the reply. You don’t need to have the app open: the system runs continuously in the cloud.

Want to filter comments? Here’s what you need to know

The filter-free flow is the quickest to set up and the most effective for generating mass engagement. But there are situations where filtering makes sense: for example, if you want the flow to activate only when someone comments a specific word on a launch post, or if you have very different posts and want to reply with different messages depending on context.

For those cases, AppSorteos offers the option to filter by specific post and by keywords. You can choose to have the flow activate only on a specific post, or only when the comment contains certain terms. You can also have multiple flows active in parallel: one filter-free flow for general engagement and others more targeted for specific posts or campaigns.

We explain how this configuration works in detail in the guide on how to send an automatic DM when someone comments on your Post or Reel. There you’ll find the complete step-by-step guide for using keyword and specific post filters.

Common mistakes when configuring this flow

  • Activating the flow without testing first. Before leaving the flow active for your entire audience, test it from a secondary account: comment on one of your posts and verify that the automatic reply appears correctly in the thread. If you added additional actions like sending a DM, also verify that message arrives correctly.
  • Writing a single identical reply for all comments. If the flow replies with exactly the same text to every comment on the same post, Instagram may interpret it as repetitive behavior. Set up at least two reply variants to reduce that risk and make the automatic replies seem more natural.
  • Not reviewing the flow after activating it. Once active, the flow runs on its own, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t need checking. If you change your account’s tone, launch a new product, or start a new campaign, review the configured messages to make sure they’re still relevant.
  • Using a reply that’s too long or has too many emojis. Long comments in a post thread look out of place. An automatic reply of two or three lines, with one or two emojis at most, works better than a long text that reads like a press release.
  • Forgetting the flow is active on older posts. If you activated the flow for “any post”, it will also apply to older posts that are still receiving comments. Periodically check that the message is still appropriate for all your published content.

How to combine this flow with other AppSorteos automations

This flow replies to comments at scale, but its power multiplies when you combine it with other available automations:

  • With the incoming DM trigger: when someone replies to your automatic comment by writing to you directly via DM, you can have another flow configured to handle that second interaction. Learn how in the guide on how to automatically reply to all your incoming DMs.
  • With the Story reply trigger: if someone interacts with your stories and then comments on your posts, both flows operate independently. You can see how to set up the stories flow in the guide on how to send an automatic DM when someone replies to your Story.
  • With AppSorteos giveaway tools: if you published a post or reel for a giveaway, the automatic reply flow can keep the post’s engagement going while the Instagram giveaway tool handles winner selection from the comments. All from the same dashboard.

Frequently asked questions

Does this flow also reply to comments that were already on my posts before I activated it?

No. The flow only activates with new comments that arrive after it has been saved and activated. Previous comments will not be affected.

Can I have this flow active at the same time as other comment flows?

Yes. You can have this filter-free flow active for general engagement and, at the same time, have flows with specific keywords for specific posts. If someone comments a keyword that activates a specific flow, that flow takes priority.

Does the flow work when I don’t have the app open?

Yes. Once saved and activated, the flow runs continuously in the AppSorteos cloud. You don’t need to have the app open or your phone on.

Can I pause the flow temporarily?

Yes. From the Automation dashboard you can pause any active flow at any time. When paused, the trigger stops working until you reactivate it. Changes take effect instantly.

What happens if the same person comments multiple times?

By default, the flow replies once per user within a set time period to avoid repetitive behavior. If the person comments on different posts, the flow may activate again depending on the interval configuration.

It’s your turn!

You now have everything you need to activate your first automatic comment reply flow. In less than five minutes you can have the flow running and start seeing the effect on your posts’ engagement.
